Industrial/PhD Course: Storage Systems Based on Li-Ion Batteries for Stationary Applications
- Time
- Tuesday 1. May 2012 at 8:30 - Thursday 3. May 2012 at 17:00
Wind energy capacity increases about 30% annually and in consequence its penetration in power system is considered to significantly increase in near future. Increased penetration and nature of the wind, especially its intermittency, partly unpredictability can put the operation of power system into risk. This in consequence can bring problems with grid stability and reliability. Energy storage addition to Wind Power Plants is one of the most promising solutions for problems related to wind integration in the grid.
Course will be divided into 3 days:
DAY1: (Battery Technologies and services)
During that day state of the art on the energy storage technologies will be provided with focus on the ones which are the most suitable for WPP. Moreover, services that energy storage can provide will be provided.
DAY2: (Battery performance modeling and battery testing)
Day2 focus on battery modeling and testing issues. Simulation studies in Matlab will be performed with energy storage connected to wind turbine.
DAY3: (Lithium ion batteries. Life-time determination and testing procedures)
In day 3 lithium ion technologies will be discussed both from performance and chemistry point of view. Accelerated ageing, life-time determination methods and life-time testing procedures will be given.
