Research on Renewable Energy Systems at Shandong University

Currently, the renewable energy systems face significant challenges for further reducing the cost and improving the performance. This presentation will talk about the research activities, which have been conducted and/or currently are running at Shandong University, China, from three main aspects of large-scale renewable energy systems. They are in specific the coordinated design and control of grid-connected inverters, the large-scale battery-energy storage system based on modular multilevel converter technologies, and the control of low capacitance STATCOM. A brief introduction of Shandong University will also be presented during the talk.
Feng Gao received the B.Eng. and M.Eng. degrees in electrical engineering from Shandong University, Jinan, China, in 2002 and 2005, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree from the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, in 2009. From 2008 to 2009, he was a research fellow at Nanyang Technological University. Since 2010, he has been with the School of Electrical Engineering, Shandong University, where he is currently a professor and serving as the Vice Dean. From September 2006 to February 2007, he was a Visiting Scholar at the Institute of Energy Technology, Aalborg University, Aalborg, Denmark.
Dr. Gao is now serving as an Associate Editor of the IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON POWER ELECTRONICS and the CPSS Transactions on Power Electronics and Applications.
