Renewable Energy Control Laboratory

INTRODUCTION

The objective of the Renewable Energy Control Laboratory is to explore the opportunities research, development, commercialization, and deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. The structures of Lab can be mainly divided into centralized configuration, string, multi-string, AC module and DC module according to the different combinations of PV array and inverter (converter, including regular string inverter or micro inverters).

At the rooftop of the laboratory there is an outdoor platform which includes solar system and climate stations.

FACILITIES

The following equipment are available in the Lab:

  • grid inverter controller implemented in dSPACE system with fully programmable in MATLAB/Simulink code composer studio
  • access to weather data measurements for AAU staff and students (5-minute average in-plane solar irradiance, wind speed, ambient and solar module temperature is available (only from AAU network) through a MATLAB GUI programme
  • Programmable DC load
  • 1 kW solar system with sun tracker
  • 10kW stationary solar system (under development)
