Energy Sponsor Programme Award Winners at Graduation 2009 · 29. June 2009

On Friday the 26th of June 2009, the Study Board of Energy had its own graduation ceremony for the first time.

Head of Studies, Birgitte Bak-Jensen handed out all the diplomas to the happy new energy engineers. As entertainment, associate professor, Mads Pagh Nielsen, had formed a Department band which counted himself on drums, PhD student Vincenzo Liso on guitar, associate professor Ewen Ritchie on the tuba, post doc Søren Juhl Andreasen on saxophone, and finally, post doc Benoit Bidoggia on piano. Benoit played two solos which proved his undeniable musical talent.

Upon handing out diplomas, Birgitte gave the word to professor, Lasse Rosendahl, who had the job of handing out awards to the best graduating project groups. The awards were given by the Energy Sponsor Programme. The first prize went to associate professor Thomas Condra’s two students Gardar Thor Gudbergsson og Arni Hrannar Arngrimsson who studied Thermal Energy and Process Engineering. The two students won DKK 25,000.

”We can’t believe it! It was a big surprise. We are very happy that our work is appreciated like that because we have put a lot of effort into it. Our cooperation with Aalborg Industries has been smooth all the way through, and our project supervisor, Thomas Condra, has been amazing”, say the two happy award winners.

The second prize of DKK 15,000 went to students Feng Li and Shuai Tan who have also studied Thermal Energy and Process Engineering. They were nominated by their supervisor, Lasse Rosendahl. The third prize winner was Michal Sztykiel who studied Electrical Power Systems and High Voltage Engineering, was nominated by associate professor, Claus Leth Bak.

However, students were not the only ones on the receiving end. During the event, associate professor, Mads Pagh Nielsen was awarded teacher of the year by the students. With the award came DKK 25,000. Mads will also, as a result of this honour, be in the running for the DKK 50,000 award, when the Faculties of Engineering, Science and Medicine announces the winner of teacher of the Faculty later this year.
