Energy students receive first price for windmill test facility · 28. June 2010
An extraordinary effort and innovative approach marks the common denominator for the three project groups from the Department of Energy Technology at Aalborg University who were honoured with awards from the Energy Sponsor Programme at this year’s graduation.
The Energy Sponsor Programme was established as a co-operation between companies in the energy sector, and last Friday was the second time that the Programme gave out awards to the most talented project groups. The first price was DKK 25,000, the second price DKK 15,000, and the third price DKK 10,000.
The first price was given to Rasmus Ø. Nielsen and Jens Due, graduates from Power Electronics and Drives, and the students proudly accepted the award. They worked on their 9th semester project together with KK-Electronic, one of the members of the Energy Sponsor Programme. KK-Electronic served the ball for the project which had as its
purpose to build a test facility able to simulate the work conditions under which transistors operate in windmills. The two graduates have co-operated closely with KK-Electronic throughout the project period, and subsequent to their exam, Rasmus Ø. Nielsen and Jens Due presented their results during a visit to the company.
- Compared to publicly accessible state-of-the-art measurements, Rasmus and Jens have succeeded in achieving quite detailed measurements of the voltage variations taking place via the transistor when on. This is due to an innovative voltage measurement system which by approx. 2 MW show the transistor voltage when on. The challenge is to have the voltage at 1 kW when the transistor is off, says supervisor to the group, associate professor Stig Munk-Nielsen.
The second price went to Christian F. Jensen, and the third price to Jakob Rabjerg Vang who studied Electrical Power Systems and High Voltage Engineering and Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Technology, respectively.
The prices were given to the three project groups because they made an extraordinary and solid effort in their project work. One of the criteria for the awards is innovation and originality. The decisions have been made on basis of supervisors’ nominations plus the marks given to the groups at their project exams.
