Expert Credit for Effort in Sustainable Energy · 6. January 2012

Energy Professor Remus Teodorescu from Aalborg University has received the international engineering association IEEE’s highest acknowledgement for his contribution to improvement of sustainable energy production. Patented inventions and frequent collaboration with the industry are among the arguments for the prestigious nomination of IEEE fellow.

The title is reserved a few of IEEE’s 385,000 members and is only awarded to individuals, who have made an extraordinary effort in their field. In the case of the Rumanian-born professor Remus Teodorescu a large range of inventions, patents and frequently quoted scientific papers document the significance of his research in the power electronic systems.

His impact is also illustrated by a close collaboration with leading companies in the field of energy. Danfoss Solar Power, German REFU Elektronik and Spanish Gamesa have all benefited from Remus Teodorescu’s expertise and since 2007, he has led the research programme shared by Aalborg University and Vestas,  the Vestas Power Programme, which with 40 million DKK is the largest collaboration of its kind within wind energy.

A common denominator in Remus Teodorescu’s research is his ambition to make the electricity network more intelligent and flexible by exploiting the power best possible and enabling the network to better integrate sustainable energy sources and to stand outage and disconnections. Remus Teodorescu has been part of establishing special laboratories in Aalborg University that promote the research in the field and the combination of the facilities and his knowledge has led hundreds of students and representatives from  the industry to the potential of improvements.

Remus Teodorescu’s inventions in solar power cells, wind turbines and operation of light and engines are also included in concrete products and he has previously received Nordjysk Universitetsfonds Innovationspris and a number of international honour awards for his work.

Only four other researchers from AAU has received the IEEE fellow title; Remus Teodorescu’s close collegue, energy professor Frede Blaabjerg, the managing director of Aalborg University’s Center for TeleInfrastruktur, professor Ramjee Prasad, professor emeritus Jørgen Bach Andersen from Department of Electronic Systems and computer science professor Christian S. Jensen.
