Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) is one of the most attractive power electronics topologies in last few years. The advantages of MMC include its modularity, easy to expand, low output harmonics, transformer-less configuration and so on. The control algorithm of MMC is much more complex than the traditional two/three levels converters’, researchers are eager to find a simple and effective control method of MMC and to explore optimal control methods in different operating conditions.
This Ph.D. project will focus on the optimal control algorithm of MMC. First, research on the non-linear control of MMC, propose linear MMC model and design the controller using non-linear control knowledge. Second, propose several internal optimal methods to improve the internal performance when the operating conditions of MMC is abnormal. Third, try to find the best hybrid submodule structure of MMC to balance its efficiency and stability.
