A Fault detection and location for DC Microgrids is presented in this research. Unlike traditional AC power systems, DC protection has been more challenging, and due to the presence of renewable energy resources, the protection system must be fast to avoid shutdown.  The objective of this research is to study and develop a fault detection, classification and location in DC Microgrids with highest reliability and speed. Hence, a fault detection, classification and location algorithm is defined. On the other hand, for increasing the reliability of the fault location, decreasing the error, taking into account dynamic behaviour of the system and make protection system more adaptive, an enhanced fault location for backup protection is introduced, in addition, the fault impedance cannot impact on the accuracy of this algorithm. The proposed algorithm must be tested on a DC Microgrid with different operational situation, fault resistance and renewable energy resources to justify their effectiveness.
