DC network is becoming an attractive choice for the large-scale integration of renewable energy sources. Due to this electrical landscape changing, the development and research of dc grids for the collection and distribution of energy from renewable sources is gaining attention. Most notably, its potential benefits for grid connection of wind farms are widely recognized because it is able to handle large amounts of power over long distances with lower losses.
Recently, the issues on interconnecting wind generators using a dc network within a wind farm have gained much attention. The suitable operation and control strategy of a DC grid and some important components, such as DC/DC converters, would enable development of the internal dc collection and the high efficient operation of DC grid. The objective of this project is to design and develop an operation and control strategy for a DC grid and the key component, such as DC/DC converter, for integrating the wind turbines in the DC grid.
