Postdoc Ariya Sangwongwanich has received the Spar Nord Fondens Forskningspris research award for his PhD thesis ”Grid-Friendly High-Reliability Photovoltaic Systems”.
In his PhD study, he has proposed solutions to ensure smooth integration between the Photovoltaic (PV) systems and the electricity network and has demonstrated that the PV system can provide much more flexible power injection through the control of power electronic systems. This can effectively alleviate potential problems caused by the PV systems such as overloading and stability problems, allowing more PV systems to be installed and connected to the electricity networks. Apart from that, he has also developed a method to evaluate the reliability of power converters in PV systems (e.g., lifetime prediction), which are prone to failure during the long-term operation. This allows the PV system owner to be able to predict the lifetime of the components in the PV system and react to prevent the unexpected failure of the system, which usually causes a significant energy loss and increases the maintenance cost.
Ariya is awarded 250.000 DKK – most of which will be spent on the further research at Aalborg University.
