The mission of this research programme is to develop power-electronic-based grid infrastructure, featuring high efficiency, flexibility and resilience, for reinforcing and modernizing the power systems with high penetrations of renewables and energy-efficient end uses.

The research programme on Electronic Power Grid (eGrid) is focused on the following areas:

  • New concepts of power-electronic-based grid infrastructure
  • Hardware innovations with new converter topologies and/or the latest power semiconductor devices for high power electronics systems
  • New functionalities and control solutions of power-electronic-based grid infrastructure for efficient and resilient electricity delivery
  • Impedance modelling, measurement, and compatibility of power electronics systems with modern electronic power grids
  • Transient and small-signal stability of electronic power grid infrastructure
  • Characteristics of power electronics apparatus during grid fault conditions
  • Interoperability of multi-vendor power-electronic-based grid infrastructure
  • Harmonic interactions of multiple power converters
